Gerald Levin Memorial Bench unveiled in the Courtyard of the Scottish Jewish Heritage Centre

The entrance courtyard to the Centre has benefitted from the addition of a new bench, which has been given by Lodge Montefiore and is dedicated to the memory of Gerald Levin (1932-2016).

Gerald was Depute Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Scotland and Honorary Life President of Garnethill Synagogue. His involvement with the Synagogue from the early 1990s was instrumental in securing vital repair work to maintain the building. He helped to secure National Lottery Funding for a major building refurbishment in the late 1990s, and other projects included extensive repair work on the hall floor. However, Gerald worked at all levels in the Synagogue, from changing lightbulbs and assisting tradesmen to supplying car parking permits to the congregation and staff, and was a consistent presence on site to deal with any issues. Gerald took the lead in running the annual Doors Open Day and took pride in the increasing audience for the event.

Gerald was a great supporter in the development of the Scottish Jewish Heritage Centre and we are pleased to have the memorial bench in our new outdoor space.
