Hidden Histories Exhibition Launch!

by | Mar 5, 2024 | News

On February 29, 2024, we launched our Hidden Histories Exhibition. Taking a step back in time, this exhibition explores stories about Jewish immigrants around Scotland. Specifically, this new exhibitions showcases the Jewish histories of six Scottish towns: Dundee, Greenock, Inverness, Ayr, Falkirk and Dunfermline which all formerly had a synagogue but now, few traces of their Jewish populations remain. Tracing the history of these areas through individual stories and events, we take a look back at Scottish Jewishness and its evolution. Shedding light on stories where little is left of their Jewish population.

Introductions by Kerry Patterson, Manager of the Scottish Jewish Heritage Centre and Philip Rodney, Chair of the Scottish Heritage Centre, were given to a crowd of over 45 guests. Food and beverages were available from own friends at Mark’s Deli in Glasgow. Guests were able to view the new exhibition, tour the site and synagogue as well as take a dive into the resources from the Scottish Jewish Archives that helped aid in the exhibitions development. We are lucky to be able to have the Archives on site and be able to draw on them to learn more about our community and histories.

Now open; the exhibition can be seen on a guided tour of the SJHC in the downstairs function room. You can book your tour here:
