New Activity Worksheet for Schools and Families

by | Jul 3, 2025 | News

We are excited to announce a new activity worksheet for schools and families.

What is the resource?

In partnership with Rosie Cunningham, we have created an activity worksheet based around the prayer hall in Garnethill Synagogue.

Who made the resource? What does it include?

Rosie is the creative artist behind Illustration etc. A friendly Glasgow based freelance illustrator who has been creating hand-drawn illustrations for organisations and individuals for over 15 years. She is in the business of telling stories; communicating something universal and often joyful and celebratory with image and word. We have worked with Rosie in the past and knew she would be able to bring our vision to life.

Community and heritage in this area is particularly important to me because I live in Garnethill, so getting to be a part of this project was a treat.

Rosie visited the synagogue a number of times over the creative process as we shared our ideas with her, she offered creative and thoughtful insights and she enthusiastically got to work and drew us this detailed vibrant activity worksheet. The activity worksheet includes a colouring in drawing of the ark, a colour in bingo of objects in the synagogue, a dot to dot of the Hebrew word Shalom, as well as some questions and fun facts about the synagogue and Jewish traditions.

How will we use the resource?

We wanted to update our resources on offer coming into 2025 for our primary school visits learning about Judaism. We have intentionally created this sheet to coincide with the tour of the synagogue where the children learn about the features of the synagogue and discuss aspects of Jewish practices. More information about our school visits can be found here. The new activity sheet is a fun opportunity for the pupils to consolidate their learning from their visit as well as a visual reminder for the future.

As well as being used for our school visits we wanted the activity sheet to be flexible to work for families who come on one of our public tours. These activity sheets will be available on request for families who would like an engaging activity tied to the learning given on the tour for their wee ones. We hope this will inspire their curiosity, encourage creativity and foster their appreciation for Jewish history.

We launched the activity sheet in February and children visiting the heritage centre have been enjoying being able to explore, investigate and use their creativity in the synagogue!
